Transparency is becoming no longer a choice, and we are here for it.
The reality is, that there's few fashion brands who openly publicise their supply chains. With many of the intricacies behind the pieces you hold and wear being hidden impacts. This makes it almost impossible for consumers to understand the depth behind what they're supporting, both post, during and after it's time in their ownership.
Luckily - the tides are changing.
One thing we know - is that Europe it taking this climate thing seriously.
And thank goodness for that.
Here are just some of the new laws/legislations being released or already in action from the EU:
1) The Anti Fast Fashion Law in France
2) The Ban on The Destruction of Unsold Goods
3) EU Eco Design Directive
4) France's Environmental Cost Labelling
5) EPR ( Extended Producer Responsibility )
6) DPP ( Digital Product Passports )
Some big words, with important meanings! Don't worry - we will break these down in some further blog posts for you more.
The Common Theme? Transparency and Traceability.
One thing all of these legislations / laws are pushing for is transparency and traceability. Brands need to declare how and where their pieces are being made. No longer is it enough to just say 'made in China.'
What this means, is that consumers will be able to make better informed decisions and gain more visibility behind the products which they buy & brands will need consistent impact assessments and to engage with suppliers so they know what they're buying, producing and bringing to market.
The Hopeful Outcome?
More considered and conscious products, less waste going to landfill, more educated consumers and a plan beyond a product's wearable life.
If you're a sustainable fashion lover, this will take some of that research burden off your hands!
If you're a brand with markets in the EU/UK - it's time to get ready and future proof your collections - we can help you with this.
A new way forwards is coming.
